So I finally saw New Moon this afternoon. Hey, don't judge. First of all, I was supposed to go with my redheaded sister during opening weekend and she up and went without me! I'm still bitter, so let's move on. Secondly, hello!Unemployed bum, remember? I presently have $3 in my checking account* so I had to wait for someone else to do the payin'. Enter The Old Man, who yes - actually took me to see New Moon. Must be love, eh? And C, Hey, I still saw the damn thing in a much more timely manner than is my usual pattern.

By the way, saw the trailer for Remember Me before the movie. Aside from the fact that Rob still needs a bit of work on his American accent, it looked quite good and I am looking forward to seeing it.

ME: LOVED IT! It was way better than Twilight, for many reasons. Also? It kinda went downhill when Edward came back. Also? There's a big ol' scene with Bella and Alice in the trailers which isn't even in the movie! My recent adoration of Rob Pattinson's jaw porn aside, I am back on Team Jacob.

RS: Jacob with no shirt on is hard to resist.

ME: Yeah, even the Old Man made a comment about how Jacob looked much better sans shirt...but I thought he was really good in the part, too. Not just good to look at.

So there you have it: My in depth critique of the film, aside from this final thought: What? The fuck? Is up? With those fucking wigs??!! Seriously, how can you take the beauty that is Jackson Rathbone and do...that to it???? Alice fared little better with her wig. Jacob's was better than in Twilight, but still...who knew I would be so overjoyed when he chopped his locks? I was bummed in the books (but then, I have quite a weakness for long-haired Native American dudes).

I hope for Eclipsethey hired a new...Wigologist? Wiggist? Wig Master? Wig Wrangler? Key Wig Grip? Whatever the fuck. Just please allow Jackson to be beautiful. Do I ask for so much?

*As a side note, how depressing is it that I can give no money to Haiti relief efforts? Not even a measly $5 so that I can obtain a copy of the dy-no-mite ff compilation being put together by ms. kathy.

Redheaded Sister: I like it. As long as it is a guy I am with. Or M. It is cute when he does it.

 

ikss: That’s the thing – I think it depends on who’s saying it and in what context.

 

RS: I do like it in a relationship. And M just says funny stuff, so it is cute. Otherwise, maybe not so much.

 

ikss: I haven’t really been called “baby” much, except at times when I just wanted to punch the guy using the word. You know, it was meant to be demeaning…in that way that some guys demean women but then say they were trying to compliment them. Becuz they’re retarded.

 

RS: hahahahaha…yes, I know.

 

ikss: But, you know – it pops up in my novel frequently and I was thinking about Rose’s* feelings about the word.

 

RS: Truman* is cute when he calls her baby.

 

ikss: Yes, but I like that first scene when he does and she’s all “why does he keep calling me ‘baby’?” Obviously, she gets over it…

 

ikss: I just think it’s something she wouldn’t care for, initially, for obvious reasons. I think it’s appropriate that she gets over it, though.

 

RS: Truman can call me baby any time…

This is the transcript of an email I just sent to my blonde sister, so if my blonde sister is reading this - my apologies for the redundancy. But frankly, I do not have time to type this shit out twice.

I am having an extremely crappy day and will most likely here here until f'n midnight tonight!

 

OK, slight exaggeration; but I will probably be here late...of course, I always work late these days, but I'll be working later than usual tonight. Mainly because I tried to work from home last night, but couldn't get my remote connection to actually connect so I was unable to do so until like 11:00pm and by that time there was no way I was going to start the project I was supposed to have done by this morning...so I had to do that first thing (I just got finished w/ it, actually) and now I have today's multitude of projects to get done - which, by the way, would have been more than a full days' work on their own.

 

So do you see why I say - AARRGGHH!!!!?

 

Plus, my boss sent me an email this morning in which he kind of nailed my ass to the floor and I am a bit miffed. Not at him, per se, but at the situation. He is really just doing his job and I know he's under a lot of pressure. However, I need to talk to him because:

 

A) He knows zippo about Credit so he does not seem to understand what my workload is like now that I am so short-staffed and Spring has sprung...although the truth is, I don't think they will care - everybody is short-staffed and I get paid to do what I need to do to get the shit done, you know? However, he is my boss now, but it very apparent that he has no idea what I do, exactly. I think he should understand so that at the very least he may have an inkling as to why I may get behind on some things. I mean, do you want me to spend my day setting up new accounts, approving credit lines and making sure orders get out the door or do you want me to spend it creating yet another in a series of Excel spreadsheets which all essentially provide the same information, but in different formats (and sometimes with lovely pie charts!)?

 

B) He does not seem to understand that my former boss didn't show me squat about how to do certain things I am now expected to do - Accounting-type things about which I am essentially clueless because I am not an Accounting professional and never expected to be asked to perform Accounting functions. I have no problem doing anything, of course; but it would be nice to know what it is, precisely, that I am supposed to do and why I am doing it.

 

C) I need to talk with him about the fact that my brain is still not up to par and ask for his patience. I know he was not filled in by my former boss as to what my issues were subsequent to The Halloween Incident, 2008. I don't even know if his boss (our CFO) knew everything that was going on. I had not talked to him about it mainly because when I first came back things were still relatively slow around here and I thought that by now I would be OK.

 

I am also starving because I of course have not had lunch. I am eating some almonds now and taking this wee break before I get back to the two projects I have to complete before I can leave tonight.

 

I guess I'd better get back to it. I just wanted to vent.

So in case you did not gather from my other emails, The Old Man and I are going up to Chico this weekend. We thought his niece's graduation [from Cal State Chico] was next weekend...

Take note. This is what happens when you leave trip details to the man of the house.

[Nephew going to Cal State Chico] actually emailed me over the weekend and said he thought the graduation ceremonies were this weekend, so I made The Old Man double-check the invite. Lo and Behold. Doh!

Well, the good news is that we get a long weekend, due to Memorial Day. So we are going to stay Saturday & Sunday nights and drive home on Monday...driving back in to LA with all of the other lunatics who decided to leave town for Memorial Day weekend. Delightful. Well, we aren't leaving home until early Saturday morning, so hopefully we won't hit much traffic on the way up. It's going to be a long drive, but I am actually looking forward to it. We are going to take our time and if we want to stop somewhere, we are just going to stop.

The bad news about our change in weekend plans is that I was supposed to go see the Detroit Cobras on Saturday night! Ergh...they are playing Wednesday night at the Troubadour in Hollywood and I will most likely go then, instead. But it would have been far more desirable to see them Saturday as they are actually playing in the OC that night and my drive would have been cut by two-thirds. Two-thirds less drive time means two-thirds more drinking time!

I kid, kinda of course, but still – who wants to drive to Hollywood - on a school night even - when one can simply wait a few days and drive like fifteen minutes down Pacific Coast Highway?

While I am not sad to have missed the "Toilet-Paper-as-Wedding-Dress" game, I am very sorry I missed yesterday's bridal shower. I spent most of the evening in the bathroom, courteous of copious amounts of Los Angeles Country Fair Food. The Old Man and I took his granddaughter Lily to the fair and I think I ate more than that huge pig with the obscenely tremendous utters obviously eats per day (have you seen that thing?).

 

I never knew there was such a thing as too much fair food.

 

Lily, however, was fine and wanted another hot dog...

 

I will give you your gift on Sunday, Soon-to-be-Married Niece.

 

I hope y'all had fun and that you actually used the toilet paper after the game winner was announced...

Hey there kids.

 

I wanted to let you know that I watched Once over the weekend. This is the Irish movie which won the Best Song Oscar this year. It was soooooooooooooooooo good! I adored it. It was a bit bitter-sweet and I cried, but aside from that it was well-acted and well-written. Lots of good music and it really presents the song-writing process in a very real and interesting way. It's a very simple movie, about these two people writing songs together; I guess some people may find that boring, but I didn't. It is also about the developing relationship of the two main characters, but even that is mostly presented within the arena of their writing together.

 

Also - lots of Ireland, which is fun. :)

 

Arnie would really like it, Blonde Sister, so you should Netflix it. You will recognize the main actor from The Commitments (he was a member of the band in that movie).

 

Brunette Sister - look for it on cable, cuz I think it's still playing periodically.

Hi there little ladies!

So listen...last night, for the first time since you gave me the DVD for Christmas, 1st Niece, I watched The Outsiders, the Complete Novel.

Oh my gosh! It was SOOOOOO much better than the original movie! I can't believe Copolla left all of these scenes out of the original flick. Not only does this version go much more in to the relationships between the brothers (which is essential) and also show more at that church with Ponyboy and Johnny, but...remember that thing under Ponyboy's chin throughout the whole original movie? And you never know what the hell it is? And you think, "That kid would be cute if not for that thing under his chin!"? Well, turns out - it's from when the Soc's jump him at the beginning of the book! It's dried up blood from their switchblade! Only they never showed that in the original version of the movie! Well, it is all now shown and therefore explained, the mystery solved. That was not just some mole C. Thomas Howell had on his chin and then had removed before he acted in another film (my original theory).

Anyway, with the added scenes this movie is actually a pretty darn good one. Of course, the main actors still are not very good in their roles, but the extra scenes also equate to more screen time for Patrick Swayze (a much better performance with these added scenes included!), Rob Lowe; even more of Emilio Estevez and Tom Cruise. They were always the best part of the flick anyway (both visually and talent-wise, if you get me. And I think you do). There is not a lot more of Dally in this version, which is a shame considering Matt Dillon's perfectly brilliant over-the-top acting throughout.

Also...now admittedly, it has been years since I watched the original Outsiders, but I do believe they totally changed like 80% of the soundtrack in this version. It's a great soundtrack, although in a few scenes the music does seem rather inappropriate and jarringly so. Like during the church-fire scene - the soundtrack is playing, like, surf music.

The hell?

All told, though, I am just extremely happy that they released the complete novel DVD. I just...I feel complete now.
