I sent a tweet the other day, in which I said that since I joined Twitter a few months ago I find that I have little to blog about. I love my blog and have been keeping one form or another of online blog or journal since 2001 so this epiphany saddened me. But it is true. Of course, there is also the little fact that I didn’t pay my bill at typepad for a few months, but the fact remains that I now tend to boil down what would formerly have been a blog entry several paragraphs long into 140 characters.

Case in point: Let’s take a look at what I have tweeted so far today, Thursday, November 5. It is 12:19pm as I begin writing this.

Admittedly, I might not have made an entire blog entry about the fact that I was hungry. But long time readers of this blog know that I’ve been known to write about far less interesting subjects.

OK, then 3 hours ago, I tweeted that The Cullen Campaign by @belladona1472 has updated. I really enjoy that story and it is conceivable that I could write in this blog about how much I like it, because it is intelligent and witty and sexy and plays out in front of a backdrop of politics, which you all know just gives me wood all on its own. It does have a large audience already, though, so I doubt it needs me to speak on its behalf. I will say this: This is the fic that beat out The Cocky and The Cougar for Best Car Fuck in the Golden Lemon Awards. The fact that it is still one of my all-time favorite fics, in spite of my justifiably bruised ego and hurt feelings in relation to that award, is a testament to how good it is. 

There are a few other fics I am thinking about writing recommendations for: All that Jazz by javamomma0921, Pressed for Time by twanza and Chele681 and Tangled Up in Blue by TxBirdie. For now, suffice it to say that I adore these stories and these (along with TCC) are probably my favorite works in progress right now. Country music hitmaker Carl Smith dies at 82

 

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) -- Carl Smith, a country music hitmaker of the 1950s and 1960s known for his dynamic voice and good looks, has died. He was 82.

Williamson Memorial Funeral Home says Smith died Saturday at his Tennessee home.

Smith had 41 chart singles during the 1950s, including the hits "Are You Teasing Me," "Back Up Buddy," and "Hey Joe!"

He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2003.

Smith was a member of the Grand Ole Opry but left in 1956 to try his hand at acting. He appeared in two westerns, "The Badge of Marshal Brennan" and "Buffalo Gun."

From 1964 to 1969, he hosted 190 episodes of "Carl Smith's Country Music Hall" on Canadian television.

Smith, the father of country artist Carlene Carter, married fellow singer Goldie Hill in 1957. She died in 2005.

I’m off to Napa again this coming weekend. I know – I should totally own property up there. *sigh* If only… (yeah, if only that stupid Cheryl Smith hadn’t stolen my HGTV Dream Home!). I leave Friday afternoon and come home late Monday.

Too bad I am poor as a hobo right now, so my wine purchases will be few.

On the flip side, I belong to so many friggin’ wine clubs that I will still get to taste lots of wine - for free! Plus, it should be lovely up there right now. It’s not too hot yet and, well, it’s the Napa Valley (and Sonoma. I tend to lump them together, which is not fair to Sonoma – especially since I actually prefer Sonoma to Napa). Oh and yeah – I will get to spend lots of time with my crazy, but ultra-loveable, family; but whatever with that. I go for the vino. :)

I spent all of my “fun money” this month on art. I bought a portrait of my niece, done by Christopher Sweeney, and I bought three pieces done by my other niece’s husband, Jared Schorr. I need to take photos and post them here, don’t I? Cuz they are rad.

Oh here is one of the items I purchased from Jared. You can buy one too and be just like me (admit it - you long to emulate the ikss)!

I also purchased one in the same style, which is of an octopus, and a much larger one which has a circus theme and tiny elephants. Trust me – it totally rocks. Or it will, when I can actually pick it up and hang it in my living room. That’s the problem with purchasing art. Often, the artist needs your piece for a show or whatever.

In other news, I am listening to Shooter Jennings right now. He frustrates me. He’s so inconsistent. The songs of his which are good are really f’n good and I adore them (Gone to Carolina, 4th of July, Lonesome Blues, Sweet Savannah)…then there are songs like Alligator Chomp and Bad Magick . Sheesh…

I am almost loath to admit, though, that I find Shooter to be sexy. It must be the latent hick in me who appreciates his long hair and extreme amount of facial hair. Plus, with the ever-present sunglasses, I don’t think I have ever seen his eyes. I don’t even think he showed them when he played his daddy Waylon in Walk the Line, did he?

I don’t even like guys who can’t bear to remove their sunglasses! It’s so lame and pretentious and I don’t trust people who won’t look me in the eye.

Ssshhhh…don’t tell on me. My baser instincts are so embarrassing.

A STATEMENT FROM EXENE CERVENKA

After some months of not feeling 100% healthy, I recently had some medical tests run and the prognosis is that I am suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. Apparently, it has been affecting me for quite some time.

Although this is obviously unfortunate news, I am choosing to see the positive in it. I, and X as a band, have supported the Sweet Relief charity since the mid-1990's; the irony of this is not lost on any of us. Sweet Relief was started as an aide to uninsured artists by musician Victoria Williams when she herself was diagnosed with MS in 1992.

While this diagnosis will most certainly mean some changes for me, personally, it will not affect my commitments to the current X U.S. tour, nor will it affect my solo album that is slated for release this fall on Bloodshot Records.

My focus will certainly be on maintaining my health--many people remain strong and continue to live their lives as productively as they had before an MS diagnosis and I plan to be one of those people.
