One of the guys who works in the actual nursery here at Friendly Flower Place apparently had to trim back a Gardenia bush this morning, because he brought several of the blooms in to our office. I now have one in a little vase on my desk.
And it smells absolutely wonderful.
What a nice little treat for my day, I must say.
So I finally broke down and joined Netflix today. One of the clinchers is that I found there the 1977 BBC production of Dracula, starring Louis Jourdan. Dudes, let me tell you – this version of the horror tale is
A) The film adaptation most closely resembling the novel by Bram Stoker
B) Scary as hell and
C) Sexy as hell, which all good Dracula movies must be.
I have been looking for this flick on DVD for years, to no avail. Because I occasionally send them money, I even get the PBS catalogue (the movie originally aired on PBS). Still, I have never seen it. I guess because the movie is thirty years old and it appears that people have forgotten about it. Not I, however! I do not easily forget a good horror flick, my friends.
Now we shall see if the flick is as good to me at forty as it was at…hmm…I don’t think I have seen this since I was like 19 or 20 years old…yikes.
Well, I still like The Outsiders, so hopefully my taste in film has not changed too very much and I will not be disappointed by Count Dracula.
(Ooh…Smash it Up by the Damned is playing on ROQ of the Eighties right now! Yay!)
Anyway, I have dragged my feet about joining Netflix.
A) Yes, it’s cheap and
B) Yes, I love movies.
I just have a hard time paying even more money toward my visual entertainment, cuz we already pay over $100/month for our Dish, ya know? Plus, I order the occasional pay-per-view flick…although I guess I won’t have to do that anymore…
Except for porn. I mean, I don’t think I’ll be utilizing Netflix for my porn.
1) Do they even rent porn at Netflix? and
2) I can’t plan my porn needs in advance. You just never know when the need for porn will arise (*ahem* so to speak). I can’t wait ‘til “Who’s Eating Gilbert Grape” or whatever to get to the top of my rental queue.
In other fabulous news, my blonde sister’s husband (aka my brother-in-law) is going home from the hospital today, complete with his new, used kidney!
(Dontcha love how I bury the lead, by the way?)
He is doing well. The new kidney is working at 100%. He is still sore and uncomfortable for several reasons, but he gets better every day and once he is home I’m sure he will heal at an even faster pace. The best news is that he can now eat whatever the hell he wants!
1) This is a man who has been on a severely strict diet for years.
B) He is also a caterer and chef and food is extremely important to him (I’d hazard to say it is even more important to him tan to me, which is really saying something).
The prospect of eating whatever his heart desires must just bring tears to his eyes at this point.
In other news – Body Fat may be the key to our nation’s energy independence. So now you know – I am not fat, I am environmentally friendly.
I feel so much better about myself now.
