So my brother in-law is doing well with his new, used kidney. The kidney is being a tad temperamental and is not working 100% of the time, but it is working some and the doctors are not overly concerned. Of course, we are all sending high hopes and positive thoughts his way, with a prayer or two to The Guy Upstairs, as well.
Other people who could have used our prayers recently? The Lakers.
Frankly, I am happy for Boston. They were at the bottom last year and are now at the top. They worked hard. They play hella-fab* defense. The totally threw the Lake’s off their game. They simply out-played them and they won.
The Lakers looked like a high school team last night.
While I like the Lakers and have a quasi-allegiance to them, stemming from the years when I loved them like no other – my like for the Lakers is far out-weighed by my dislike of Kobe Bryant.
Sorry, kids. I don’t care that he was acquitted. I still think he did it. I think the man has not heard the word “no” very often and didn’t fully understand its’ definition that night. Plus, he’s just an arrogant tool over-all.
So anyway – for me, this loss is not one which is going to send me in to weeks of despair, despite the fact that I live in Southern California.
What else is new?
I love John Cusack, but that’s not exactly new…
I am still waiting to see if The Old Man and I are going to get the house on the hill that we want. The owner had been out of the country for a while, returned yesterday, and now the agent I am working with is out of town until tomorrow. Nut-shell, I probably won’t know anything until Friday. And seeing as we are supposed to move on June 28, we’re cutting it close.
The problem is that if we get this house, I need to back out of the townhouse we have on hold for us so we need to get this show on the road, people!
I forgot to mention that last weekend, my sisters and I went to the Bowers Museum to see the TerraCotta Warriors exhibit. The first Emperor of China had an “army” of 7,000 figures made of clay placed around his tomb, to protect him in the afterlife. Although the exhibit included only a fraction of the total number of warriors, horses and other figures, it was still quite impressive.
I am having dinner tomorrow evening with the FOK**. Saturday morning, I am visiting the salon in an effort to maintain the illusion that I am still in my thirties and I am still a redhead. That afternoon, I am attending the wedding of the Old Man’s niece.
Somewhere in between, I will be packing.
*And I think this is the first time I have ever used the supposed-word “hella”
**Friends of Karen. It’s a long story, having to do with karaoke and Bill Clinton, but suffice it to say that FOK consists (right now anyway) of my friends Ana and Liz. Additional applicants to FOK will be considered.
