I sent a tweet the other day, in which I said that since I joined Twitter a few months ago I find that I have little to blog about. I love my blog and have been keeping one form or another of online blog or journal since 2001 so this epiphany saddened me. But it is true. Of course, there is also the little fact that I didn’t pay my bill at typepad for a few months, but the fact remains that I now tend to boil down what would formerly have been a blog entry several paragraphs long into 140 characters.
Case in point: Let’s take a look at what I have tweeted so far today, Thursday, November 5. It is 12:19pm as I begin writing this.

I woke up with such a hunger this morning.
Quickly followed by...

I also need some food...
Admittedly, I might not have made an entire blog entry about the fact that I was hungry. But long time readers of this blog know that I’ve been known to write about far less interesting subjects.
OK, then 3 hours ago, I tweeted that The Cullen Campaign by @belladona1472 has updated. I really enjoy that story and it is conceivable that I could write in this blog about how much I like it, because it is intelligent and witty and sexy and plays out in front of a backdrop of politics, which you all know just gives me wood all on its own. It does have a large audience already, though, so I doubt it needs me to speak on its behalf. I will say this: This is the fic that beat out The Cocky and The Cougar for Best Car Fuck in the Golden Lemon Awards. The fact that it is still one of my all-time favorite fics, in spite of my justifiably bruised ego and hurt feelings in relation to that award, is a testament to how good it is.
There are a few other fics I am thinking about writing recommendations for: All that Jazz by javamomma0921, Pressed for Time by twanza and Chele681 and Tangled Up in Blue by TxBirdie. For now, suffice it to say that I adore these stories and these (along with TCC) are probably my favorite works in progress right now. You can read their summaries and click links at the sidebar to the right, there. --->
Back to Twitter. Next came the following:

Think we just had an earthquake...
And yes, we did...

3.7 earthquake, Greater Los Angeles Area, California. Nov 5 9:06am PDT (2m ago, 3km SE of Long Beach, depth 22k. http://j.mp/a331D9
from Park Estates, Long Beach
An earthquake is ripe blog fodder if ever there was such a thing. Twitter totally stole my thunder, there.
I then took some time out to thank a bunch of folks for giving me a shout out via #Follow Friday or #FF. See, if you send a message saying #FF @iksswrites, you are basically telling everyone who follows you that they should also be following @iksswrites because she’s the coolest.
Or something like that. Frankly, the whole concept is beyond me. But I know it’s a nice thing they’re doing, so I thank them for it.
Then comes this...

It just shows how biased our "news" coverage has become that people think it was ok for Keith Olbermann to donate $ to political candidates
Yeah. I totally would have made up a blog entry about that. But now I don’t have to because I said it all in exactly 140 characters. This could be a good thing. I’ve always been long-winded. Twitter is teaching me to economize my words. It’s also teaching me abbreviations for common sayings such as For the Win and Fuck My Life.
If Brevity is the Essence of Wit and Twitter is the Essence of Brevity, does it naturally follow then that Wit is the Essence of Twitter?

To be fair, it also wasn't OK for FoxNews to donate $ to the RNC
No, It wasn’t. I said as much on Twitter.

*sigh* Love. RT @SteveMartinToGo Letterman on tonite (Took out g and h to save space, however, added e. Wise, or am I kidding myself?).
Oh my stars. I could really go on in a blog entry for days on end about how much I love Steve Martin and why I think he’s a genius. But really? Doesn’t it all just boil down to: (Took out g and h to save space, however, added e. Wise, or am I kidding myself?)?
Side note:
I tend to do a lot of “Re-tweeting” wherein I repost someone else’s message so that my followers will see it. I tend to do this a lot with messages from political/environmental groups, when something makes me laugh and, in general, when I’m being lazy.

Keith Olbermann suspended for making campaign contributions; plus-side? THE McRIB IS BACK!!!
Hee! I love Michael McKean. He cracks me right the heck up and I think I re-tweet his stuff more than anybody’s.

So FYI: Chapter 2 of The Cocky Speaks is going to need a major overhaul, post-beta. Sorry, but it kind of sucks, so you'll be happy later.
Yeah. I sent the chapter to the beta, having several concerns and just an overall feeling of “bleh”-ness. I hoped it was just me.
It wasn’t.

Interesting factoid: Those red velvet cupcakes I made the other night turned the old man's poop red.
iksswrites ikss
They did not, however, affect mine in any way, which is curious.
iksswrites ikss
This is the point at which new followers begin to ask themselves just why they started following me on Twitter...
Yeah, see, this is why you should really be thankful I have succumbed to The Lure of the Twitter. Otherwise, you know I would have written a big long blog entry about the old man’s red velvet poop.
There was then some discussion as to whether there may or may not be a correlation between those whose poop is affected by red velvet cupcakes and those whose pee is affected by asparagus and I think I agreed to a scientific experiment during dinner tonight.
Twitter can be a scary place if we are left unsupervised.
But then I passed on this link from NPR and almost kind of redeemed myself for my red velvet poop rant. Nifty story and I want to see that book.

Did you ever notice that chamomile tea basically tastes like...nothing?
Dudes, seriously. I use two teabags, even. It just tastes like hot water.
Then I posted a link to this article at The Superficial which said everything I wanted to say about the whole Keith Olbermann sitch. Nice of them.
And then I passed along this video of the Flying Burrito Brothers: Thus, my public service obligations have been completed.
See? In a mere four hours, I covered on Twitter all of the subject matter for what might have been a week’s worth of blog entries only months ago:
- Recent News/Political Happening
- Twific-Related Items, Thus Turning Off Any and All Followers (Readers) Who Could Not Care Less About Anything Twilight-Related
- My Writing
- Too Much Personal Information About Either Me or the Old Man, Perhaps Relating to Bodily Fluids
- Lusting After Random Dude(s)
- Random Observation Having to do with Nothing Pertinent But Still Something I Feel Compelled to Relate
- Cool Music
Had I discussed Scott Glenn, there really would be no reason for me to have a blog at all anymore.
So what shall I do? I fear cobwebs may settle in the corners around here.
